Thornbury & District Flower Club meet on the 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month in the Thornbury Methodist Church Hall, Castle Court, Thornbury. We are a very enthusiastic and lively group who are passionate about flowers and floral art. If you have an interest in flowers and enjoy watching what the experts do with them, then do come along to our demonstrations on the 2nd Thursday at 7:30pm, then come back on the 4th Thursday of the month at 7:30pm and have a go yourself. There is a sales table with flower arranging supplies and sundries to purchase. There will always be someone around to give you a helping hand or advice. Learn the best ways of making your flowers last longer and find out how to make the most of that special bouquet. In June and December we have large Open Demonstrations featuring National Demonstrators – these are really special evenings! We also organise trips to gardens and other clubs, and, as we are affiliated to the Three Counties and South Wales area of NAFAS, we join in with Area and National events which are held throughout the year. If you would like more information please see the contacts section of the website. Weblog April 2011 In January we held our usual American Supper Party with lots of lovely food provided by the members, and we were also thoroughly entertained by the Northavon Youth Theatre Group. In February we had a practice evening class entitled ‘All in a Twist’, and also during this month we held our AGM. A cheque for £550.00 was sent to Help for Heroes which was our charity for last year. One of the new items that we have added to our programme for this year is to write to invite three special guests from the NAFAS AREA to take some of our classes:- ‘Fire and Ice’ with Wendy Lawrence ‘Lovely Landscapes’ with Alwyn Page ‘My Love is...’ with Katherine Kear. You can find full details of our programme for the year in the events section. In March we had an enjoyable demonstration by Sally Taylor entitled ‘Sallying Forth’, and our next practice class this month is ‘Rough with the Smooth’, which we hope will inspire everyone to do some different arrangements. Non-members are very welcome to both our demonstration and practice evenings for a small charge, although after a couple of evenings if you think flower arranging is for you, we hope you will join the membership of the Club. Two members help out with the Gardening Club at Christ the King School in Thornbury, and we do the hanging baskets for the Community Garden with the children - The Spring baskets will go up in time for the garden's opening on lst April. We also do the summer baskets and these will go up in June. Please visit the Community Garden if you can find the time because it is a peaceful little haven (situated next to Turnberries Community building). Some of our members entered the Flower Arranging classes at the Horticultural Spring Show and won prizes, so congratulations to them. If any of the above has whetted your appetite for joining the club please contact the Secretary, or just turn up on one of our evenings and we will be very pleased to see you. |
